Overall I purchased 5 point reflexology insoles a few weeks ago, and already I find an improvement in walking. I am 75 and have an arthritic knee and uncertain balance. The insoles have helped a lot and I hope will continue the good work. They are very comfortable and perhaps soon I shall know whether I can give them five stars!
I will review these insoles first from a podiatry point of view and then from a reflexology point of view. (I did my reflexology training after my degree)
From a Podiatry perspective reflexology is not really accepted at present. So it would be difficult to recommend these insoles from the Podiatry point of view because there is no evidence base for it working. Clinically the insoles which have raised areas for certain reflex areas could cause problems for certain patients. For example patients with osteo or rheumatoid arthritis may have problems with the raised areas making joints in the feet sore. If a patient had corns or callous in these areas then the insole could also make them more tender. If a person wanted to use them then I would at least make sure that they did not have any serious foot pathology or deformity before trying them. From a podiatry perspective I could not clinically advise people to use them.
From a Reflexology perspective I think the idea and concept is interesting but I think that the focal points chosen do not seem like a good idea. I would prefer an insole that would stimulate all the reflex zones equally. So from a reflexology perspective I would also not be able to recommend these. Sorry!
