Even if you’re not planning on doing lots of walking, it’s always a good idea to have a pair of trainer-type shoes which offer some support for your feet.  Shoes with a shock-absorbing sole are ideal and will stop you tiring so quickly when you’re wandering around the local markets, enjoying an evening stroll or hiring a bike to get around.

If you’re heading for the sun, a pair of leather sandals is a must if you want to stay comfy and cool. If you like wearing socks with your sandals, but don’t want to commit a fashion faux-pas, you could always opt for a ‘shandal’ style. A cross between a shoe and a sandal, it will keep your feet covered and protected but still allow them to breathe.

A pair of fabric shoes might also come in handy. Lightweight and easy to pack, they can be dressed up or down so you won’t need to pack an extra pair for the evenings.
