These pads in some ways are similar to the thin forefoot cushion. However these pads carry more risk of problems with putting excessive constriction on the second or third toes. If a replaceable pad was needed I would be happy to recommend the thin fore foot cushion because the holding strapping is more substantial and the forces are more evenly spread. Whereas with the ball of foot pad the the strapping is a single loop round one toe with the pad and its frictional forces pulling on that one strap. This is more likely to put excessive constriction on the supporting toe which in a younger healthy individual would not be a problem. However with an elderly person with circulatory problems or reduced sensation the constriction might cause problems. So generally speaking I would not recommend these pads to patients because of these risk factors.
