I purchased the Gel Bunion Guard after undergoing surgery on my foot and it helped so much in the healing process. It took away pressure on the foot when I had to put shoes on and I could walk without pain. It is also very durable and will be able to be used when the other foot is operated on. Helpful for...

Can be helpful for protecting the joint in hallux valgus.

Can be helpful if there is corn or callous formation on the bunion joint.

Can be helpful to the bunion joint being rubbed by footwear. (Check this is not a footwear size issue)

Can be helpful where the tissue over the bunion has been compromised in the past and needs protection.

Unhelpful for...

If the the bunion area is prone to breakdown consult a podiatrist.

If the big toe joint is suffering from gout consult health professional.

General advice...

Ensure that the strap part of the pad is not too tight on the great toe.

Avoid use if there is swelling of the great toe or lymphoedema problems affecting the great toe.

Ensure that footwear is broad enough in the toe box to accommodate padding and not increase the pressure on the bunion area.

Consult a podiatrist if there is ischemia, peripheral vascular disease or neuropathy.

If there is a history of tissue breakdown on the bunion then consult a podiatrist.
