Supporting the Royal Voluntary Service

28 Mar 2017 11:17:39

We’re thrilled to announce that Cosyfeet funding has enabled RVS, our charity of the year, to provide life-changing support services to an additional 49 new clients during the past year.

The charity we have chosen to support this year is the Royal Voluntary Service. Money raised from our partnership is going towards helping to fund their North Somerset Good Neighbours Service.

The Good Neighbours Service offers practical help that can make all the difference to older people - whether it's collecting a pension or a repeat prescription, walking the dog or changing a light bulb. Often family members might live too far away to visit regularly so Royal Voluntary Service Good Neighbours provide valuable company and friendship as well as making sure the older person is safe and well.

We’re thrilled to announce that Cosyfeet funding has enabled RVS to provide life-changing support services to an additional 49 new clients during the past year. This has greatly enabled the service to expand its reach into the community and help more people in need, people who would not have had access to this valuable service otherwise. RVS have been able to offer them one-to-one befriending services and help them to access local community amenities or home visits, I.T support or home maintenance.

The charity now has approximately 80 volunteers in the Somerset area and are providing support for approximately 100 vulnerable older people. They currently have 48 people on the waiting list in Somerset and are actively recruiting weekly; they hope that their volunteer numbers will increase within the next few months to meet the current demand. Due to the lack of funding available for activities and support from local authorities there is continual demand for their services due to health care professionals referring on a weekly basis. The financial support from Cosyfeet has helped with their campaign to raise awareness of the need for more volunteers in the Somerset area.

Mr Okeefe from Nailsea is one of the charity’s new clients. He is visited by his volunteer Nikki Mackie weekly. Although Mr Okeefe finds it difficult to get out, he has told RVS that: “I cannot express how wonderful my volunteer is. I look forward to her visits as she really cheers me up.”

Daily Mail - March 2017

17 Mar 2017 11:25:14

Interesting article in the Daily Mail this week - worth a read...

Apparently, most pensioners are wearing shoes which don't fit and can be damaging to foot health.

This article recommends older people should consider wearing wide-fitting shoes with adjustable touch-fastening straps and rubber soles - just some of the features of most Cosyfeet styles!

Do you have a skill that you’d like to share with others?

13 Mar 2017 11:54:29

The Royal Voluntary Service are looking for talented older people to join their team of GrandMakers.

To encourage older people to stay active and pursue their interests, the Royal Voluntary Service have created GrandFest. This is a celebration of skills that older people can pass on to younger generations.

Over the years, the RVS have brought together GrandMakers; a team of people over the age of 60 who have a traditional skill they enjoy sharing with others. These GrandMakers present masterclasses to small groups at their GrandFest events. Past masterclasses have included jam-making, crochet, weaving, dancing, bread making and woodworking.

The RVS are looking for potential GrandMakers to join their team. If you have a skill that you’d like to share with others, or know someone who would make a good GrandMaker, you can apply at grandfest.royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk.

The main GrandFest event will be at Spitalfields in London on Sunday 18th June. In addition, there will be a number of smaller events across the UK.

GrandMakers chosen for GrandFest in London will need to be over 70, but anyone over 60 (by 18th June 2017) can apply to take part in the regional events.

The Royal Voluntary Service is Cosyfeet’s charity of the year. We are raising money to help fund the important work they do to improve the lives of older people across Britain, helping them stay active, independent and socially connected.

A wide choice of shoes for women

13 Mar 2017 08:24:56

Over the last few decades people have been getting taller and heavier and their feet have been getting bigger. As the demand for larger sizes grows, so does the choice of styles.

Over the last few decades people have been getting taller and heavier and their feet have been getting bigger. As the demand for larger sizes grows, so does the choice of styles. This is great news if you have swollen feet and need to wear women’s wide shoes. You can now find footwear that is suitable for almost every outing or occasion.

Waterproof walking boots are now available in a wider fit. This means you can get out and enjoy the great outdoors whatever the weather and your feet will stay warm, dry and comfortable.

Boat shoes and heels are two wardrobe staples that are also now available in a wider fit. Boat shoes are ideal for the spring and summer months and look good with anything; from formal wear to a pair of your favourite jeans.

The right pair of heels can make an outfit. If you have very wide or swollen feet look for styles that are deep and roomy. It’s also a good idea to choose a style that has a broad heel so that you feel stable and supported.

With a choice of playful patterns and cheerful colours, fabric shoes are an easy way of adding some interest to your outfit. They are also a useful style if your feet are sensitive or painful as they tend to be soft and lightweight.
