Customer request: Footwear for bandaged feet

30 Aug 2016 13:53:10

Find out what Liz, our Cosyfeet Shop Manager & Fitting Expert says...

Customer request: Following an operation, my mother’s feet are bandaged. What shoe would you suggest?

Find out what Liz, our Cosyfeet Shop Manager & Fitting Expert says:

I would suggest trying Rowan. I call this unisex style our ‘miracle shoe’ and it’s what I recommend to customers when nothing else will fit. It’s specially designed to fit exceptionally swollen or bandaged feet. It looks surprisingly neat on the foot and has an extra-low opening so it’s easy to put on a swollen foot. The leather version makes a great outdoor shoe while the suede version is ideal for indoor use and can double up as a slipper. Rowan is available in sizes 5 – 13 (no half sizes).

New & improved slippers from September!

30 Aug 2016 13:10:00

From September, our women’s Olivia slipper and all our men’s slippers are changing for the better. We’ve kept all the features that make them so popular but improved the comfort and fit.

What improvements have we made?

  • NEW cushioned footbed – as well as offering much more comfort underfoot, the footbed can be removed if necessary, making the slipper even deeper and roomier.
  • NEW broader toe area – this means a much more comfortable fit for customers who have sore, swollen or hammer toes.

What feedback have we had about the changes?

All our fit testers preferred the new style of slipper. Due to the ‘nature form’ shaping in the toe box it allowed their toes to sit flat and gave them more ‘wiggle room.’ They found the new cushioned footbed very comfortable and liked the fact that they could remove it if they needed more depth. We also sent samples to some of the Health Care Professionals who recommend our products and the feedback was very positive.

Which of our slippers have changed?

All the styles shown below have the new comfort footbeds and roomier toe area. We will be updating other women’s slipper styles in 2017.

A reminder about what makes our slippers so special!

Unlike many slippers on the market, our extra roomy slippers offer good support and stability. That’s because they have a stiffener built into the heel. This provides shape and support, so they’re more like a house shoe, but they still have the comfort and softness you’d expect from a slipper. They also have a substantial sole which can be worn indoors and out.

NEW 100% waterproof footwear for swollen feet

For autumn, we’ve added two new styles to our waterproof collection. In addition to Minnie and Moose for women, we now have Stanley and Livingstone for men. Available from 7th September.

What makes this footwear waterproof?

The CosyTex™ membrane, between the leather and the lining, is at the heart of our waterproof footwear. It is an extremely thin layer of polytetrafluoroethylene, a strong, tough, waxy resin which has millions of tiny pores per square inch. Due to its microporous structure, it has some amazing characteristics:

Waterproof

Wet materials rob your feet of warmth. CosyTex™ footwear is durably waterproof, allowing you to stay dry and enjoy your activity in comfort.

What does it mean?

We believe waterproof products shouldn't leak - and, what is more, that this quality is retained over the entire lifetime of the product. However, our waterproof protection depends on more than just the membrane. All the lining seams and joins are secured with a special waterproof tape for added security and we use high-quality Water Resistant leathers and first-class shoemaking standards.

All our CosyTex™ product prototypes from our manufacturing partners are put though a battery of tests in an independent lab. Only if they meet our strict weatherproof performance standards are they approved for production.

Why is it important?

Wet fabrics conduct heat 3 times faster than dry shoes, robbing your feet of warmth, dryness and comfort.

Windproof

Our Windproof membrane preserves your microclimate and keeps you comfortable.

What does it mean?

Although textiles like microfibres, closely woven fabrics and many fleece materials are often considered windproof, even light winds can penetrate most of these fabrics, making you feel chilled and uncomfortable. In technical terms, a fabric can only be considered truly windproof if its air permeability is 5 l/m²/s (volume of air that can pass through one square metre of the fabric in one second) or less. CosyTex™ products meet or exceed this standard.

Why is it important?

As cold wind blows through or around your shoes or clothes, it causes convective heat loss, robbing you of the warmth kept in the thin layer of air between you and your footwear. The CosyTex™ membrane prevents this wind-chill from happening by stopping the wind from passing through. The result – you preserve a comfortable microclimate inside your footwear.

Breathable

CosyTex™ lining and fabrics allow sweat to pass through and help reduce overheating and perspiration build-up.

What does it mean?

“Breathability” is one of the outdoor industry's most misunderstood terms. It is not, as many believe, about a fabric's ability to let air move through it, rather it refers to how well it lets your sweat escape in the form of moisture vapour. Our membrane quality ensures that during heavy exertion our shoes will breathe well enough to allow sweat to evaporate easily.

Why is it important?

When you're active, your skin removes excess heat via perspiration. To avoid uncomfortable sweat build-up, the CosyTex™ membrane allows the evaporating moisture to escape through the fabric. This breathability leads to more comfortable and drier skin, even during high exertion.

Questions:

  1. Wet fabrics conduct heat 3 times faster than dry. True or false?
  2. What is polytetrafluoroethylene?
  3. What air permeability must a fabric have to be considered truly windproof?
  4. What does breathability refer to?
  5. What are the lining seams and joins secured with?

Supporting the Good Neighbours Service

Cosyfeet’s charity of the year Supporting the Good Neighbours Service

The charity we have chosen to support this year is the Royal Voluntary Service. Money raised from our partnership will help fund their North Somerset Good Neighbours service.

This service provides a regular volunteer to visit an older person a couple of times a week to help with shopping, attending medical appointments, preparing a hot meal, getting out to a lunch club or to meet friends and of course friendly company and conversation.

It is a true lifeline for older people experiencing isolation and loneliness in the area and support from Cosyfeet will help keep this vital service running until March 2017 whilst the RVS seek future funding. Each week their 70 wonderful local volunteers help 68 older people to stay connected to their community and supported at home. Demand is very high for the service across Somerset and the RVS are currently looking to expand their reach across the county.

All the services are delivered by volunteers and managed and co-ordinated by Royal Voluntary Service staff. Volunteers are already generously giving up their time to help so shouldn’t be out of pocket. Our support will help cover volunteer’s expenses such as petrol costs, help the charity to professionally co-ordinate and manage the services it provides, to run their Day Centres and provide lunch clubs and group activities, to recruit and train more volunteers and promote their services so that they can help even more people.

Cosyfeet’s support will help bring warmth and smiles to older people in North Somerset each week – helping the RVS take housebound people on trips to meet up with friends, support older people who have to come home from hospital to an empty house and help them send a friendly face to older people who are alone.

Royal Voluntary Service is our new chosen charity for this year. We are raising money to help fund the important work they do to improve the lives of older people across Britain, helping them stay active, independent and socially connected.

Royal Voluntary Service wants to help create a society where everyone feels valued and involved whatever their age. They are one of the largest volunteer organisations in the country. Their 35,000 volunteers help older people stay active, independent and able to continue to contribute to society. They do this by providing practical and emotional help where and when it’s needed.

We want to help Royal Voluntary Service continue their vital work. That's why we will be donating 25 pence for every pair of our bestselling Helen or Richard slippers you buy this year. In previous years we have helped PDSA, Canine Partners, WRVS, BIBIC and Diabetes UK.
