A festival of winter walks

19 Dec 2012 09:40:03

The Festival of Winter Walks runs annually over the Christmas and New Year period. It's a great opportunity to discover the pleasures and benefits of walking.

Enjoy walking in a winter wonderland...

The Festival of Winter Walks was set up by Britain's walking charity, Ramblers. Their aim is to make walking paths safer and encourage people to do more walking. And this year, they want you to go out walking over the Christmas period!

Hundreds of walks will take place around the country during the festival which runs from 22 December 2012 - 6 January 2013.

All walks are free and open to anyone and everyone. Chosen and led by Ramblers volunteers, the walks will showcase Britain at its wintry best. It's a great way to burn off that Christmas dinner and have fun doing it together with your loved ones.

Depending on how much you feel like doing, there will be short, easy trails you can enjoy with family and more challenging walks for the experienced hiker!

For more information visit http://www.ramblers.org.uk/what-we-do/events-index/2012/december/festival-of-winter-walks.aspx

Cosyfeet in the garden!

Last month saw a fantastic Cosyfeet slipper area being opened in a garden centre called Monkton Elm in Taunton.

Last month saw a fantastic Cosyfeet slipper area being opened in a garden centre called Monkton Elm in Taunton. The opening few weeks have been really excellent and have been helped by the arrival of a rather special person who was armed with mulled wine and mince pies! Obviously it’s important to state that this is in fact the real Father Christmas. Looking at the fantastic Christmas fayre that’s available it’s no wonder that special person is so large!

Socks for the homeless

11 Dec 2012 12:10:00

This Christmas, we’re donating 500 pairs of new socks to homeless people attending ‘Crisis at Christmas’ centres across London.

This Christmas, we’re donating 500 pairs of new socks to homeless people attending ‘Crisis at Christmas’ centres across London. The socks will be offered to users of the podiatry service provided over the seasonal period.

Crisis is a national charity for homeless people. At Christmas, the charity provides companionship and support to alleviate loneliness and isolation, and to help people take their first steps out of homelessness.

Socks are an important part of foot health and are a constant need for homeless people who are often on their feet all day. At this time of year, it’s likely that the only pair of socks they own will be wet as well as worn. A pair of clean, dry socks won’t just provide them with comfort, but it could help prevent foot problems and even hypothermia.

For further information about the Crisis at Christmas campaign visit the Crisis website: www.crisis.org.uk/volunteering.

Running the ‘Bath Half’ for Canine Partners

7 Dec 2012 15:00:38

Every year the Bath Half Marathon raises over £1.5 million for charity. And in 2013, a team from Cosyfeet plans to run it!

On the 3rd March 2013, Cosyfeet’s team of elite (ahem) athletes will be running / walking / crawling 13.1  miles in the hope of raising £1,400 for Canine Partners,  a charity that’s close to ours and our customers hearts.

Canine Partners is Cosyfeet's chosen Charity for 2012/2013. We’re aiming to raise as much as we can to help the important job they do in assisting people with physical disabilities enjoy greater independence through the provision of specially trained dogs.

We’ve started training, (some of us more rigourously than others!) and we’ll keep you posted with our progress and, of course, we’ll let you know how we do on the day. Wish us luck – we’re going to need it!

What happens to missing socks?

5 Dec 2012 09:54:20

Last month we asked our customers what they think happens to missing socks. They came back with some imaginative answers!

Cosyfeet customers explain the mystery of missing socks!

We’ve all been the victim of a pair of socks that went into the wash together but came out single. So where did the other sock go?

Last month we asked our customers to tell us what they think happens to missing socks. They came back with some imaginative answers!

Here are a few of our favourites:

“I think that the missing socks are abducted by aliens who are wearing bowler hats that have also gone missing ! !” D Strange

“Well of course it’s the "sock fairy."  I thought everyone knew that! They furnish their homes with them and also are quite mischievous and leave you the ones with the holes!!“ Debbie Morley

“Did you not  know that all the missing socks go down to the Antarctic Ice Shelf so that Papa, Mama and Baby Penguin can have ultra warm COSY FEET during the severity of the  long, cold, dark Antarctic winter.” Jackie Volkov

“I placed my socks in the washing machine, out of four pairs placed in machine I only had two pairs out. It would appear that the others had gone walkabout. Without even saying goodbye, there was no further sight or smell of them again...”  I. Williams

“They end up in your partners drawer, unless they are Cosyfeet socks when you would never lose one of them as they’re too comfy to lose!” Steve Andree

“Perhaps they team up with the missing scissors which cut them into little pieces that get flushed down the outlet pipe!” Celia

“They never go missing if you wear odd socks and no more worrying!” S Atterton

“I think Santa takes them to warm the ears of all his 'little helpers'!” Sharon Norman

"I think that there is a magic door in the back of the tumble drier. All socks that have had enough of working in service go through the door into the land of "Sock paradise" where they can live happily as a single liberated sock and not as one of a pair!!!!!” Susan Barker

“Having lost 12 socks over a period of time, I have now found the answer. My washing machine broke down last week, low and behold when the mechanic took out the drum there were my missing socks they had slipped through the seal and the drum, my odd socks have now been reunited I believe they had a party and hope they will live  happy together again.” George Mills

“I believe they are being stolen, by a race of one legged aliens.” Kieran Walsh
