Essential oils have been used throughout history for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits to treat a variety of ailments.

The health benefits of essential oils

Essential oils are natural, aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants. They have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits to treat a variety of ailments including headaches, backaches, muscle aches, stomach aches, colds, insomnia, stress, anxiety, toothaches as well as for disinfecting and healing wounds.

These are some of the essential oils that are commonly used for relieving the symptoms of coughs and colds all of which are contained in our new Breathe-Ol decongestant:

Eucalyptus
A traditional household remedy in Australia. The leaves and oils are used for respiratory conditions such as bronchitis and croup.

Mint
A traditional remedy used in the East to treat colds and bronchitis.

Cajeput
A traditional remedy used in the East for colds and throat infections.

Camphor
Used traditionally as a preventative of infectious disease and respiratory ailments.

Wintergreen
A traditional remedy that has been used for respiratory conditions.

One of the most well-known essential oils is lavender. Renowned for its lovely fragrance, it also has many health benefits. It can relieve anxiety and insomnia, ease muscular aches and pains and enhance blood circulation. It’s also a powerful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. It’s perfect for skin care products as it’s non-toxic and can even be applied undiluted to the skin. To find out more about our lavender products, click here.

All the information is written by PDSA vets and is based on the most up-to-date knowledge about what different pets need. It gives advice on a range of topics including diet, behaviour and environment. It also covers a variety of animals from more common pets such as dogs, cats and hamsters to ferrets, rats and chinchillas.

The PDSA is the UK's leading veterinary charity. It was founded in 1917 by Maria Dickin CBE to provide care for sick and injured animals of the poor. In 2013 the charity provided over 2.3 million free veterinary treatments to pets in need.

Christmas dinner with Shipham Active Living

17 Dec 2014 10:15:29

Cosyfeet awarded their local Community Award to Shipham Active Living. They very kindly invited Cosyfeet along to their annual Christmas dinner.

Getting into the Christmas spirit with Shipham Active Living

Earlier this year, Cosyfeet awarded their local Community Award of £500 to Shipham Active Living. Based in Shipham, Somerset, the group meets fortnightly and offers a varied programme of events and entertainment to older people living in the community.

Roger Knight, the group’s treasurer, very kindly invited Cosyfeet along to their annual Christmas dinner at the village hall in Shipham.

The hall was beautifully decorated and tables had been laid with crackers and name place cards for the 50 attendees. They were treated to a glass of mulled wine before settling down to watch some entertainment provided by The Olive Tree Theatre Group who sang and danced along to popular Christmas songs. This was followed by carols sung by children from the local school. The event finished off with a delicious 2 course Christmas lunch made by local caterers and a Christmas raffle.

“Active Living provides an opportunity for older people to get out and socialise with others,” says Roger Knight. “Our funding has recently been cut so we are very grateful for the award. It means we can put on events like this and afford speakers and entertainers for our group.”

Cosyfeet Christmas Raffle

10 Dec 2014 10:05:51

Every year Cosyfeet holds a Christmas raffle for its staff with all proceeds going to charity. This year we are raising money for the PDSA, our chosen charity of the year.

Raising money for the PDSA this Christmas

Cosyfeet holds an annual Christmas raffle for its staff with all proceeds going to charity. This year we are raising money for the PDSA, our chosen charity of the year.

The PDSA provides free veterinary services for the pets of needy owners in the UK. One of the many ventures they are raising money for is a new PDSA pet hospital in Birmingham.

Every year the current hospital treats over 13,000 pets from across the region and it’s not unusual for pets and their owners to be queueing out of the door. With only four consulting rooms and limited kennel space, it’s getting harder to keep up with the huge demand. That’s why a new pet hospital is so desperately needed.

For more information about the work of the PDSA and to find out how you can help visit www.pdsa.org.uk.
