Enjoy England's architecture and culture for free!

Heritage Open Days, from 11th to 20th September, are a great opportunity to enjoy England’s architecture and culture for free.

Heritage Open Days (11th – 20th September) celebrate England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.

The idea behind the scheme is to give visitors the opportunity to explore interesting properties across the country that aren’t usually open, or normally charge an entrance fee. From castles to city halls, tunnels to tower tops, police cells to private homes, the variety of places and ways to discover them are endless.

Heritage Open Days is organised by a huge network of people who share a passion for places, history and culture. Locally, over 2,000 organisations and some 46,000 volunteers organise thousands of site openings and events, jointly attracting over 1 million visitors. They make Heritage Open Days England’s biggest voluntary cultural event.
