Our Top Ten Uses for Lavender Oil

Lavender is possibly one of the most versatile herbs in the world and the therapeutic uses for its pure essential oil are seemingly endless.

The only essential oil you will ever need!

Lavender is probably the most versatile of all essential oils. The delicate fragrance is calming, relaxing and balancing – both physically and emotionally. In fact carrying a bottle of lavender around with you is like having your own personal first aid kit, perfume and pick-me-up!

Here are our top ten ways to use lavender in your daily life:

1. Keep calm
A drop applied to the temples or back of the wrists helps relieve tension and provides a feeling of serenity. A few drops in a hot bath will make you feel relaxed and help relieve anxiety. You can also try putting a few drops on a cotton wool ball and placing it in a small glass bowl. It creates a calming effect and rids the room of any unpleasant odours.

2. Sleep well
Diffusing lavender into your bedroom can help you unwind and have a blissful night’s sleep. Alternatively, try putting a couple of drops on a pillow before you go to bed.

3. Great for insect bites and bee stings
Put a drop of lavender oil on a bee sting or insect bite to stop itching and reduce any swelling.

4. Relieve aches and pains
Lavender oil is renowned for easing muscular aches and pains. Try adding 5 drops of lavender oil per 10ml of vegetable oil and massaging it into the skin.

5. Prevent nausea or motion sickness
To alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness, place a drop of lavender oil on the end of your tongue, behind your ears or around your navel.

6. Stop nosebleeds
To stop a nosebleed, put a drop of lavender oil on a tissue and wrap it around a small chip of ice. Push the tissue covered ice chip under the middle of the top lip to the base of the nose and hold as long as comfortable or until the bleeding stops.

7. Help get rid of dandruff
Rub several drops of lavender oil into the scalp to help eliminate dandruff.

8. Treat your feet to a foot spa
Lavender oil can be used in footbaths by adding a few drops to warm water. Try putting some pebbles or marbles into the foot bowl and gently rolling your feet over them. Inhale the gorgeous aroma while you rub the soles of your feet back and forth over the pebbles or marbles – it’s just like having your own foot masseur!

9. Freshen fabrics
Place a few drops on a cloth or laundry drier sheet to freshen and naturally deodorise clothes, sheets and pillow cases.

10. Repel insects and moths
Place a few drops on a cotton ball for wardrobes and linen drawers to ward off insects and moths.
