A festival of winter walks

The Festival of Winter Walks runs annually over the Christmas and New Year period. It's a great opportunity to discover the pleasures and benefits of walking.

Enjoy walking in a winter wonderland...

The Festival of Winter Walks was set up by Britain's walking charity, Ramblers. Their aim is to make walking paths safer and encourage people to do more walking. And this year, they want you to go out walking over the Christmas period!

Hundreds of walks will take place around the country during the festival which runs from 22 December 2012 - 6 January 2013.

All walks are free and open to anyone and everyone. Chosen and led by Ramblers volunteers, the walks will showcase Britain at its wintry best. It's a great way to burn off that Christmas dinner and have fun doing it together with your loved ones.

Depending on how much you feel like doing, there will be short, easy trails you can enjoy with family and more challenging walks for the experienced hiker!
