If you have swollen feet, it’s important that you choose the right kind of footwear. If you look for wide shoes which offer more depth, then it shouldn’t be necessary to buy a larger shoe size just the get the extra room that you need.

It is important to pick the right time of day to try footwear on unless the swelling is very well controlled. Early morning is not ideal as feet may only have moderate swelling and late in the day your feet are likely to be at their most swollen. It is best to try new footwear on sometime around the middle of the day to get the most accurate fit.

If possible, it is better to have more than one pair of shoes and change them during the day to accommodate different levels of swelling. This then prevents the shoes from becoming distorted and they will keep their appearance and shape for longer. If you wear orthotics it is important to ensure that the footwear you choose will accommodate them.
