Products for plantar fasciitis sufferers

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia, a band of tissue that stretches from your heel to your middle foot bones. It supports the arch of your foot and acts as a shock-absorber.

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis, including pain, can be anywhere on the underside of your heel. Foot pain is often worse when you take your first steps in the morning or after long periods of rest when no weight is placed on your foot.

Usually, the pain will ease in time, however, fascia tissue heals quite slowly. People who suffer from plantar fasciitis may find it takes many months, or more, before feeling improvement. In the meantime, you should rest your foot as much as possible. Avoid running, excess walking or standing and undue stretching of your sole.

You can buy various wedges and insoles to cushion the heel and support the arch of your foot. These work best if you wear shoes with orthotic inserts at all times. Place shock absorption or supportive inserts in both shoes, even if you only have pain in one foot.

The insoles available will help cushion the base of your foot and aid pain alleviation with deep heel cups and support.

People with plantar fasciitis should not walk barefoot on hard surfaces, instead, consider buying a good quality walking shoe which can support the foot. If you wear wider fit shoes, ensure they have cushioned heels and good support for high arches. A laced sports shoe with a wide toe box, rather than an open sandal is probably best. Avoid old or worn shoes that may not cushion the heel bone.

Wearing a supportive shoe can help absorb shock and protect the ball of your foot as well as providing soothing relief from underfoot pain.

Regular, gentle stretching of your Achilles tendon and plantar fascia may help to ease your symptoms. If the pain on the bottom of your foot continues, your doctor may refer you to a physiotherapist for exercise guidance.

Shock absorption is an important element in our range of products for plantar fasciitis. Cosyfeet products combine comfort with convenience and are ideal for those with sore or swollen feet.
