Crisis Appeal for Podiatrists & Podiatry Students

Calling Podiatrists: Could you spare a few hours to help provide footcare to the homeless at Christmas? Cosyfeet are teaming up with Crisis at Christmas in an urgent call for volunteer podiatrists in London, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Could you spare a few hours to help provide footcare to the homeless at Christmas?

Cosyfeet are teaming up with Crisis at Christmas in an urgent call for volunteer podiatrists in London, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Crisis guests have greater demands on their feet than the rest of the population, and much less opportunity for foot care. The results can be painful and debilitating.

Crisis are looking for qualified podiatrists to treat their guests, and podiatry students to help run the service by welcoming guests and preparing them for treatment.

The Crisis Podiatry Service provides a range of treatments and foot care advice for guests, mainly treating corns and calluses, mycotic and gryphotic nails, blistering and maceration. Helen Moakes, the volunteer organiser of the Crisis Podiatry service says, “Many volunteers return year after year. It’s a hugely fulfilling, enjoyable time and our guests are always very grateful to see us.”

London volunteers meet at the Operations Centre in Bermondsey, East London, at the start of each shift to be briefed and assigned to a team. Transport is provided to and from treatment centres. Shifts run from 8am to 3pm and 1.30 pm to 8.30pm between December 23rd and December 29th.

Volunteers are also required in Edinburgh and Newcastle on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and there are plans to expand the podiatry services into other UK cities in 2015.
