National Nest Box Week!

14th – 21st February is National Nest Box Week. The aim of the campaign is to provide our much-loved garden birds with a place to live.

Give a bird a home!

Organised by the British Trust for Ornithology, National Nest Box Week is an important one for all the amazing birds that we have in the UK including Blue Tits, Swifts, Robins and Owls.

The idea behind the campaign is to get us to put up nest boxes, not only to protect the wildlife we already have, but to encourage more birds to brood in our back gardens.

National Nest Box Week started in 1997. As more trees are cut down, birds lose their homes, so putting up boxes is a great way of giving them somewhere to live, whilst giving you the pleasure of watching the ones you attract.

At the official National Nest Box Week website, there are lots of hints and tips to get you started, as well as information on how to monitor your nest box and see what kind of wildlife you're likely to attract.

You can either make your own nest box or follow the link at the official site and buy a ready-made box and set it up in your garden. Then all you have to do is wait and see what happens next!
