Not all fabrics are created equal and some are better than others when you’re choosing comfortable wide shoes. Suede and soft leathers are an ideal choice as they tend to mould to your feet. Leather also has the added benefit of being ‘breathable’ and can help keep feet feeling fresh.

Elastane is another very usual fabric for fitting wide or swollen feet. Elastane, or Spandex as it’s otherwise known, is a synthetic fabric that is known for its exceptional elasticity. In fact the name Spandex is actually an anagram of the word ‘expands.’ It is strong and very durable and can also be treated to make it stain and water-resistant which is obviously important for footwear.

The benefit of using Elastane in footwear is that the fabric gently moulds to the foot and will stretch to fit any swelling or irregularities. It is also very soft so it won’t put pressure on painful joints, bunions or problem toes. Cosyfeet offers a wide choice of Elastane shoes and boots for men and women.
