Cosyfeet’s rewarding relationship with a remarkable charity

We’re celebrating our longstanding relationship with Brainwave, a local charity that we’ve supported for a number of years.

Here at Cosyfeet, we understand the importance of supporting local causes within our community here in Somerset. That’s why we’re celebrating our longstanding and impactful relationship with Brainwave, a local charity dedicated to assisting children with disabilities and additional needs. Brainwave employs innovative therapies to improve mobility, communication skills, and overall potential, to encourage independence among disabled children.

Brainwave’s specialised programmes aim to achieve the maximum potential of each child by taking an integrated approach to their physical and cognitive development, and to enhance the children’s social skills and emotional wellbeing. Every child receives a tailored therapy plan, which Brainwave has designed to meet the needs of each individual, and the family as a whole.

We spoke with Dawn Chance, a dedicated physiotherapist with over 18 years of experience, "One of the most common questions I'm asked is 'Will my child ever walk?' so when we get to be part of this huge milestone, it’s always really rewarding." Dawn also fondly recalled a young man named Nathan, whom she assessed at 3 years old and is now 20. Nathan has excelled in wheelchair racing and has represented England. Despite a recent injury, he has embraced wheelchair tennis and rugby, and aims to compete in the Paralympics, "It's been incredible to witness his progress over the years." Dawn remarked.

Cosyfeet have maintained a strong partnership with Brainwave since the early 2000s. Regularly donating surplus stock, our contributions are sold through Brainwave's charity shops. The funds generated from these sales have expanded the range of therapies offered by Brainwave and improved various facilities at their headquarters. These amenities include a hydrotherapy pool, an immersive sensory room, a specially-adapted swing room, an outdoor space for families, and on-site accommodation for those who travel long distances.

Barry Upfold, Head of Retail & IT, has been an integral part of Brainwave since 1990, witnessing numerous milestones, including Brainwave’s recent 40th anniversary, which was attended by the Duchess of Edinburgh. Meeting esteemed individuals such as the late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, Barry is very well-acquainted with high-profile visits. Reflecting on Cosyfeet's contributions, Barry said, “The generous donations from Cosyfeet over the years have been invaluable, and we always do our best to make sure the products take pride of place within our shops. Lots of customers find Cosyfeet footwear very comfortable and will often buy multiple pairs wherever possible.”

Keith Sinclair, Brainwave CEO added, "We are immensely grateful for Cosyfeet’s unwavering support and generosity over the years. The vital funds generated from selling their surplus stock donations in our charity shops, has enabled us to support more children and families both locally and across the UK. We are pleased to have Cosyfeet walking alongside us on our journey to achieve life-changing outcomes for more children and their families. Thank you!”

Cosyfeet takes great pride in assisting this exceptional charity. Nick Brine, Managing Director of Cosyfeet, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to offer continual support within the local community, "Brainwave's remarkable work with children and families is truly inspiring, and Cosyfeet is honoured to give something back, especially to such a worthy cause right on our doorstep."
